The Caucasus Meeting is a part of B2B Doc’s project War & Peace Between two Seas that was initiated at the end of 2022.
The project puts its focus on story telling in conflict zones and brings filmmakers from conflicting sides together to discuss:
important aspects of documentary filmmaking in conflict zones;
possible ways for the filmmakers from the respective sides to collaborate;
what is the filmmaker’s role in the current landscape - document, support a cause or look for solutions;
can filmmakers play a role in the reconciliation process?
During a three day session we will explore these questions. We have invited filmmakers from Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to draw inspiration from their colleagues from the Balkan region, who have the experience of being further into the future than their Caucasian colleagues.
The program includes:
Lecture: Conflicts in the Balkans and in the Caucasus: Why They Are more Similar than Different - Adrian Brisku, Head of Small (Nation-)States Centre and Associate Professor in Modern History
Case study: Self-Portrait Along the Borderline - Anna Dziapshipa introduce the Abkhazia conflict and her approach to it as a filmmaker
Lecture: Conflict Resolution and Intergroup Reconciliation: A social-psychological perspective - Sabina Cehajic-Clancy, Associate Professor of Social Psychology
